Huron Students Honor Veterans Day with Service and Gratitude

Students across Huron City Schools marked Veterans Day with heartfelt tributes, letters of gratitude, and acts of service honoring those who have served our country.
Woodlands Elementary: Letters to Admiral's Point
Students at Woodlands Elementary composed over 80 letters to veterans at Admiral's Point nursing home. The letters expressed gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by service members.
Fourth-graders Kevin Ollendick, Bentley Mullins, and Mason Malone delivered the letters to residents in person, spending time with veterans and helping them celebrate the holiday. The personal delivery added a meaningful connection between generations and gave students the opportunity to hear stories from those who served.
McCormick Middle School Assembly
McCormick Middle School hosted a Veterans Day assembly to honor local veterans and recognize their service. Students in Mrs. Rowen's class went a step further, collecting names from families and the community to ensure veterans connected to McCormick were recognized during the program. Huron High School: Supporting Preston
Huron High School National Honor Society students spent Veterans Day supporting Preston, a young veteran who first visited our schools 3-4 years ago and returned this year to share his story.
Preston's journey is remarkable. Eight years ago, he was just beginning his path. Today, at 18 years old, he's already served his country and even attended the State of the Union Address. NHS students assisted with his visit, helping facilitate his message of service and dedication to our high school students.

Letters from HHS and Woodlands
In addition to the Admiral's Point delivery, students at both Huron High School and Woodlands Elementary wrote letters to veterans, expressing their thanks and appreciation for the freedoms they enjoy because of veterans' service.
A Day of Gratitude
Veterans Day gave our students the chance to pause and recognize the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of those who have worn the uniform. From handwritten letters to personal visits to school-wide assemblies, Huron students showed that gratitude matters—and that honoring veterans is something worth doing with intention.
To all veterans in our community: Thank you for your service.
